Hurston Curriculum

 

Young children are inquisitive by nature and have the ability and skill to build understanding and make theories about the world and its surroundings. The basic principle of inquiry-based learning is to respect the teaching method of children's active learning and to take children's opinions and questions as the focus of teaching and learning. Children's questions remind us that seeking answers and meaning is essential to being citizens of the world. Questioning and exploration can inspire multiple perspectives and levels of thinking. As we come to understand the world from this perspective, we learn that curiosity, analysis, planning, creation, and reflection. The most important is that inquiry inspires thinking, and thinking leads us to understand the meaning of things.
