Notice: Hurston May Day Holiday arrangements.

Date:2019-04-29

Dear parents,

May Day is coming, in order to let your children have a safe and happy holiday we wish to bring the following to your attention.

The holiday time is as follows:-

Holiday time: May 1 - May 4 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday), a total of four days.

In order to help parents and children enjoy a happy May Day holiday we recommend the following safety measures. Prevention is always better than cure and developing safety awareness in children is always good.

Safety precautions

1. Fire safety

Teach children not to play with fire, do not let children use matches, candles, lighters and other dangerous goods alone.

2. Electrical safety

Children are not allowed to play with electrical appliances. All electrical sockets should be monitored by parents. Make sure that children do not poke fingers or inappropriate objects into sockets. Teach children not to touch electrical appliances with wet hands or wet cloths.

When engaging in outdoor activities do not climb or disturb electricity poles. Do play games under electric cables. Always be aware of the dangers of electric shock.

3. The traffic safety

Be sure to pay attention to traffic safety during the May Day holiday. Teach children not to play on the roadside, know the basic traffic signs and obey the traffic rules.

General safety awareness

Don't leave children alone at home. When children go out for activities they must be accompanied by an adult. Try to avoid crowded places and beware of accidents. When you go on holiday check the weather forecast in advance and prepare necessary clothes to avoid catching a cold.

4. Disease prevention

Spring is the season of high incidence of hand, foot, mouth and other infectious diseases. Parents should take their children to crowded public places as little as possible, especially to avoid contact with other children with fever, rash and disease. Reduce the chance of infection.

5. Food safety

No overeating. Eat fewer snacks. Do not eat out of roadside stalls and other food outlets without proper health protection. Do not give children raw or cold food. Don't eat too much meat and fish. Pay attention to food hygiene.

Further safety precautions

1. Routine

Parents should arrange their children's work and rest time reasonably and try to keep it the same as the school’s work and rest time. “Early to bed and early to rise” is an excellent habit. Arrange a proper lunch break. Pay attention to the child’s rest and play cycle; do not let the child be in a state of constant excitement. Also, do not let the child play until they are overtired. Arrange some study activities every day to consolidate good habits.

2. Pay attention to diet

With the warm temperature children's appetite will also be affected. Always give children adequate nutrition. Give children more water, especially when playing outside in physically intensive activities. Let children drink water frequently. Encourage the eating of plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Give vitamin supplements in a timely fashion. As the holidays are seen as a departure from hard work some parents indulge their children with unhealthy “junk food”. Please avoid doing this.

3. Self-management skills

Holidays must not be a time when children relax their self-care routines. Parents should not do everything at home; this will develop in the children a dependent psychology. Properly arrange tasks for children within one's power and actively guide them to do some things for themselves. If children do well, praise them in time. For example, before and after meals, let children help clear the table. Before and after the mid-day nap time guide children to make the bed. Good hygiene practices benefit children throughout their lives.

Attention to hygiene

1. Frequent manicure and hand washing: children are active and like to put their hands everywhere. Bacteria can easily grow on their hands and nails. In addition, children are accustomed to biting their nails and rubbing their eyes, which may easily cause infection.

2. Frequently “air” the quilt. “Airing” quilts will make them more comfortable to use and also prevent the breeding of mites.

3. Keep the house well ventilated. Spring is the season for flu epidemics and good ventilation helps prevent this. In the morning open the window, let the fresh air flow into the room.

Safety is the basis of a happy and healthy life. Let us work together to raise the safety awareness of our children. I wish you a happy and rich holiday!
